Rent renewals
Soon after establishing this tenants' union, we discovered that many tenants were facing 20-40% base rent increases in their rent renewal notices. In the current economic climate, such a significant increase is not sustainable for most residents.
If your rent renewal offer exceeds 5.8%, you should file a complaint with the Office of Landlord-Tenant Affairs (OLTA).
(Example: 5.8% of $2,000 monthly rent is $116. If the rent renewal offer is more than $2,116, file a complaint with the county.)

What happens next?
OLTA will assign the complaint to an investigator. You'll receive notice in the mail once your case has been assigned and it will appear in the building's public record under OLTA Cases.
